A Month Teaching High School

I was just filling in for a sick teacher. It was my first time teaching high school students and the esperience opened my eyes. My teaching assignment was just for a month and though I am used to giving speeches and teaching some college subjects that month was qutie challenging for me.

High school students are really different, they need something more that academic knowledge. You know that they are hungry for something in life, maybe attention, or love or something. I had to read up a lot of student information so that I would know how to treat each and every individual in my class.

I want to be effective in their lives even for just a month. I know that it is quite a high aspiration but it is not impossible. I gave that month my all and I invested more than my time and energy in that month. I don’t know if I was able to make a change but I did my part.

A great goal is to go to school to become a physical therapist assistant. You go to college for about two years to get the training and education. Then you start work as a physical therapy assistant in a therapy center working with a physical therapist. You don’t work directly with the patients without the physical therapy. You work under the physical therapist and help him or her to work with the patient. You learn what it takes to help patients to recover from injuries and illnesses while you are in college. When you start work as a physical therapy assistant you work a certain amount of hours. It may be hard to not work at least full-time. A lot of physical therapy assistants enjoy their work tremendously. They get to where they would not mind going back to school for another 8 year duration to become a physical therapist.

Out having my lunch between deliveries for my horrible job, I spotted an cute girl. She was wearing a lab coat and I thought maybe she was a doctor at the nearby clinic. In an effort to meet her I followed her into the clinic. Before I could make contact with her, I was greeted by the receptionist and asked the purpose of my visit. Unprepared, I stuttered trying to find an excuse when she asked me if was a ‘ Phlebotomy?” In my embarrassment I agreed to whatever she was saying.

I was asked to sign some papers and make my way to the station in the back. The same girl, lab coat and all, came out with a needle laid out on a metal tray. I yelled out at the sight of the needle. I wasn’t sure before what a phlebotomy, but I now knew it involved needles. I jumped up knocking the tray of supplies out of her hand; and made a mad dash to the door.

Of course, I realized 15 yards out that I had left my ID with the receptionist.

I have been a substitute teacher for some time now and last year I was given a history class to sub for. Fortunately enough it was my major in undergrad so I knew what I was going into and knew how to take over the class. Soon enough it became permanent for the rest of the semester. This class was supposed to learn about World War 1 and I read online how other classes were taught this through simulation exercises. So we had a full on World War 1 Simulation in our classroom where we split teams up into separate countries and made them find out facts about the war to try and piece everything in order chronologically as well as get them to understand why each country took that action during the war. The kids not only had a blast when they were in class, but they walked about knowing dates and events during the war by heart.
